Computer Fails to Resume After Sleep

I install all important and optional updates for Windows (other than bing desktop crap).

As for the display driver; it's just that I've tried a lot of different drivers, even beta drivers however it never gets passed the instant lights on power on to instantly power off. Could that be caused by GPU drivers? I never get to see anything on the screen and it's always the boot device LED that lights up on my mobo....

I don't mean to be arrogant/disrespectful or even uncooperative, I just don't understand why it could still be the graphics driver ^^

Because it's almost always the Display driver.

Let's see if we can get Hibernate to work: Hibernate - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Forums

Then choose Balanced Power Options, Advanced Settings> Set Sleep to 1 min, Hibernate to 2 minutes, save.

Reboot to see what happens.

Tried sleeping and resuming after booting up in 'diagnostic mode' and disabling hibernate; this time, when it went to sleep... the lights didn't turn off or the fans but the screen went blank and it just stayed that way. I left it for ~15mins and nothing happened, had to do a cold reboot to get it back =/

Tried setting it to hibernate after 5 mins after disabling sleep and rebooting in diagnostic mode but the same original thing happened; lights turned on and fans spun up for a second then shut down again.

I'll try getting it to hibernate with 'balanced power options' soon (instead of the high power option ive been using)

Try to get driver updates from your pc maker and not windows, since they can be different, and that is crucial.
Also in my experience, the ASCAPI Sleep state setting in BIOS setup does not always show S3, but sleep should still work.

I did not suggest trying one or the other Hibernate or Sleep, but both. Try again and follow the suggested steps.

Balanced plan may help.

Use the drivers provided by Win7 first (this is not XP) and then if those don't work import the latest Display driver from the PC or display adapter's Support Downloads webpage. If that fails try an older driver working backward.

Did it ever work correctly? Find that driver.

My apologies, I meant to say that I did try the sleep then hibernate combo;

I've noticed now (or at least it does it now) that after instantly powering off after I try to resume it from sleep, the next time it boots, it boots with a black screen with a blinking underscore. As for trying the default windows 7 drivers for my GPU is there any special program I should use to remove the old drivers or is just a regular uninstall okay? I have an Nvidia GTX 560ti but I do know AMD drivers are an absolute pain in the arse to fix/update/remove etc....

Just uninstall the old drivers in Control Panel and device Manager, then install the latest. Run Windows UPdate first to see if they provide one under IMportant or Optional after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3)

Most sleep and hibernation problems can be fixed by doing the following:-

Open a command prompt as administrator.
At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off, and then press Enter.

Restart your system.
Now go back to command prompt (as admin).
At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, and then press Enter. (that is a space between exe and /)

This should resolve the problem whereby a computer will not resume from sleep or hibernation.
