Defrag makes something with my harddrive.

I have used defrag 3 in ashampo winoptimiser 8 (bought version) Before the defrag the computer was slower but the harddrive wasn't hearable. now after the defrag i can hear the harddrive. Is it just me or is it making sence or what? Its on a laptop and the laptop is about a 40Cm from me under my desk.

My first suggestion is to not use 3rd party tools to maintain Windows 7. The built in Disk Defragmenter is usually all that's needed. "Optimizer" tools usually cause more problems than they solve.

Disk Defragmenter - Open and Use

When a disk is defragmented, related files are rearranged so they are closer together rather than scattered all over the hard drive. Think of an encyclopedia with many volumes. If you put some of the volumes in the kitchen, some in the bedroom, and some in the living room, it's going to take a longer time to find the volume you need. But if you put all the volumes in one bookcase it's a lot easier to find what you're looking for,

Perhaps the Ashampoo defrag tool didn't really do a good job rearranging the files on your hard drive. Maybe the actuator arm is moving back and forth trying to find files that are still scattered on the hard drive.

Try running the Windows 7 defrag tool and see if it makes a difference. You could even run it a couple of times to make sure the files have been rearranged the best way possible. If the hard drive is still making noise I'd back up all my data and think about running some diagnostic tools to see if the drive is failing. This troubleshooting guide has links to Check Disk as well as other HD diagnostics.

The thing i like about the win optimiser is mostly becouse its cleanig everything when you open the program. The program have cleared like 5gb onnessecary files and the defrag msde my hdd faster and booting time got improved by the startup tuner. But i could try it. The sound is not anything that bothers me. But i dont know how other 3rd party programs is but this is really good at is jobs. It have saved a lot of computers here from slowing down to death. So i just wondered if defrag like mad the arm change direction quiker by plasing all the files "closer" so it dont need to move too far. And just becouse of that tou hear a more rapid sound from the arm? It could be like that. Btw i where doing my defrag och the mostly intelligent way in the program and it took me like 24h. And i got a huge boost by it so eeh. Like i said. I just whanted to know if there was a logical answer in it.

the hard drive could still be searching around for data, or maybe the hardware is worn out. my relic of a computer's hard drive sounded like a blender when it was in use

No one here has ever recommended AShampoo for anything except uninstall.

I would give your HD and registry a good cleaning with the approved safe tool CCleaner 3.19.1721 - FileHippo.com.

Then do a Boot Time defrag with full Disk Check using Puran Defrag free Download. This gets the System files which can't be defragged when Win7 is running and results in performance improvement.

For even more improvement, first enable Intelligent Optimizer on Additional Operations tab. This moves the most used files to the outer edge of the HD for faster access.

In addition we'll look over your configuration if you'll post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Forums .

Make sure as well you have a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and your HD is tested using both maker's HD Diagnostic CD scan and Disk Check

You clean 5GB of "junk"?!? That is an abnormal amount of junk and some was likely NOT junk.
Ashampoo is junk (have experience) in my opinion and has been since Win 9x.
If you want to optimize w7 no 3rd party software is needed other than what Greg listed and these tips.
    Optimize Windows 7

Your drive may have coincidently become defective too, run a test.

    Hard drive(s):

Pick one for your HDD brand or use Seatools.

Ok yes i know. ashampo winoptimizer isnt the best program but for me it works. it made my computer faster and the boot time better. The thing i think winoptimizer is good and why i like it is becouse 1: it keeps the computer clean ( you start the program and it clears all the chace from the webbrowser. then it removes unneeded programs. and then you can easily remove stuff from the startup tuner. The defrag is not a thing i care about now becouse my computer is kinda new. The 5Gb of stuff was a weird program i downloaded by misstake but never found. i got the full version of ashampo winoptimizer 8 so why not use it.

I think i've tried ccleaner but i didnt really see the need in it becuse i dont use my computer like i did with my old computer for like 3 years ago.
My dad is folloving a thing called pc for alla and every month or week he gets a cd with a lot of useful program. like norton internet security, Win optimizer 8, ccleaner. etc. So all the computers in the house is very cleaned up.

If you dont know i made this becouse i where wondering why i heard or not heard the hdd working. now i dont but sometimes i hear it. My imaginations? So i just wondered if there was any "sence" in that defrag makes your hdd loud or something...
