I tried to reinstall my mouse drivers at the device manager. Then I shut the computer power down and restarted. I found I my mouse was not working at all...So I shut the power down again, disconnected the mouse. Then I pressed START and connected the mose to the mouse is now working again. So I should be able to check the date of the driver file to ensure it was downloaded today? yes?

before proceeding. Ask back any questions to clear up any doubts. We will have your back the whole way but you want to know what you're doing before you begin.
Let me study the procedure: with other HP computers I have performed a destructive recovery and reloaded all the original software from the partition. Of course all of my software had to be reloaded. So I need to have a plan for that. It was not difficult to reload from the partition. The clean installation is presumably an analogous procedure. I will need to supply information to Microsoft before I will be able to do that.
My own data files are backed up with Carbonite.

Thanks: I see your link in one of your messages above. I am going to study this material to see that I understand it completely. Sometime there is jargon or computer terms that I do not understand. First I need to document the software I will have to reinstall. For example right now I do not have at hand the documentation or references on my Windows 7 that came with the computer. Right now I do not know where that is. Additionally I will log all of the information I need for all of my programs for reinstallation. I am going to put the material inot an Excel file on Dropbox so that I can access it from my Laptop.
With earlier computers the "crapware" was huge, but with this one it is minimal.

Newer HP's also have the Minimal Recovery option that is referred to in the tutorial, which is close to a Clean Reinstall. Have you checked to see if it is offered when you run HP System Recovery?

Yes; I have checked that out with HP: they told me that system recovery option only applies to Windows 8 computers. Also I spoke with them about making system recovery discs. They said I must use discs and I cannot use a flash drive, however, I do have the discs here {it will take 5 of them }.

As you can see from the link you can most certainly run Factory Recovery on an HP WIn7 PC, so i don't know why HP told you that.
I would reboot into Recovery to see if it offers Minimal Recovery and if so run it. If not do the Clean Reinstall.
Make your Recovery disks first and back up your files.
gregrocker: Thank you for you advice: My impression was that the HP Support level of expertise was not good. I gave them the precise information regarding my computer and that was what they told me. Now regarding your advice above.
The usual procedure for HP recovery is simply to follow the steps given in the computer. {I have done recovery in earlier HP computers i.e. destructive recovery} I had. Now your language above puzzles me i.e. " I would reboot into recovery ........". What exactly in simple language does that mean.....

Follow the steps in HP System Recovery to boot Recovery to see if it offers Minimal Recovery.
