Seems to definitely hardware related.

Pick one for your HDD brand or use Seatools.

RAM (memory) test:
This will require memtest on a bootable CD or USB stick.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

I asked in post #14 if Raid was being used and never got a answer so I though removing (unplugging) the hard drive would be a good test. It might help point us in the right direction.

In the end I gave in and just bought a new z77 motherboard and reinstalled windows and its fine. I think it was driver issues but I had other problems so decided on some fresh hardware.
