Carl - after I uninstall Avast (and prior to installing MSE), I did another boot trace to find out any other offending program/ services that might be causing the delayed boot.

As far as I can tell, TeamViewer is slowing down service startup a bit, and the Aggressive Link State power settings for the SATA bus are enabled either in windows or in the BIOS, and Windows is querying the heck out of the PCI to PCI bridge device checking if it's ready to power down. However, I'm not sure changing either is necessary. The only other issue is the Gigabyte tools suite doing a "PreRun" process during the shell startup phase, and that might be worth uninstalling, but otherwise this is about as good as you're going to get with all of the software and startup items installed (none of them are really heavy, other than Teamviewer and the Gigabyte tools - but there's a decent amount of startup items and services).

Hi Carl

Thanks a lot for your analysis and advice. Last day, while I was uninstalling some apps, for some unknown reasons, the network connection on my PC got jacked up. WiFi was working but there was no connectivity on my computer. Did a repair install, but to no avail. Finally decided to go with a clean install.

Installed all the important and optional updates and now slowly installing apps and monitoring them closely to see if one of them causes the boot delay. I am trying to keep the installation and the apps as lean and basic as I can. Dropped those Gigabyte utilities altogether. So far it's running well without any lag in booting.

Good day Jack!

Yes, I have been looking at SSDs for quite some time now and there is a fair possibility I will be going for one in the near future.

Is there any specific brand/ model that you'd suggest? Or does it not matter anyways? I think I will be going for a 90 or a 120GB one and use it just as the system drive.

So far, after making a clean install, I am happy with the booting time. But an SSD is still on my mind - maybe after the prices drop a little :)

I haven't looked and/or studied SSD's for a while. So my thoughts would be a couple of years old. Many new things have happened to SSD's in that amount of time.
The only things I would recommend is don't get caught up in all the speed charts and graphs comparing. A m/s here or there really don't mean anything in real life computing.
The things I look at are brand name and warranty and quality. When I got mine Intel was my choice.
Another thing I would suggest is get as big of one you can afford and nothing less than 120 gigs.
Their will be other members that can give you suggestion also.
***Fair Warning***
Once you use a SSD you will want more of them.

Thanks Jack. I will surely post a thread here seeking reviews and detailed opinions on SSDs when I am ready to take the plunge from HDD and have some cash to spare on it.
