Windows 7: System does not hibernate

System does not hibernate

On a Sony Vaio win7x64 pro, 6go ram, 750hdd, the start - shut down button shows hibernate in the selectables options but when selected the system only log off the user and never hibernates. Even when the computer is left idle with sufficient time with setting to hibernate it does not hibernate but only log off the user. Even when the critical battery level is reached with critical battery action specified as hibernate, the system log off the user and runs out of battery. Why is that and what can be done to have the system behave correctly ? Thanks in advance

Make sure Hibernate is enabled: Hibernate - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Forums

This is often a problem with the Display driver so try updating it from Windows Updates or the device's Support Downloads webpage.

If not work through these other Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums.

You can troubleshoot by setting sleep to 1 minute and Hibernate to 2 minutes to see if what you try is working.

Check the performance log at the time of failure to see if something is interfering, establish a Clean Boot, run through the other Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

If not then you can almost always find the cause by Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace - Windows 7 Forums

Thank you to all of you. I did search the forum before asking the question (sorry I shall have it noted before) and tested the several options with the powercfg. It allowed also to change in the device manager some devices that were not allowing the syste to hibernate. So far to no avail.
The bizare thing is that even if in the shut down menu the hibernate solution appears as option, once you select it it only log you off of the user session. I've also inactivate the hybernate, then deleted the hibernate file, then also delete power plan, created new one. But unsuccessful so far. I don't understand the relation between the logoff and the hibernate.

They should not be the same.

Continue working through the steps I gave you, report back results. Since you've reported nothing so far, I'm assuming you haven't started them yet.

Is this the original factory preinstalled Win7? If so that is a corrupt install to begin with that causes a lot of these kinds of problems. This is why most tech enthusiasts will not run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get Win7's native perfect performance.

So I just recently found out how to activate hibernate on my Windows through this site. At first I had hybrid on, so I set hibernate to activate after 30 minutes. I'd set it to sleep and then go to bed, in hopes it'd hibernate during the night. I noticed though that some mornings when I awoke, my...
