Windows 7: Slow loading of some applications in Windows 7

Slow loading of some applications in Windows 7

I have a laptop (HP Probook 4430s), with Windows 7 as the OS.
The problem I face now is lagging in some programs when I use them. For example :

a) When I use the putty(already sshed into the server), and then type commands the words get stuck/hang for a while before it continues to show the rest of what I type. Means its not smooth typing. It pauses while I am typing, then continues.
b) When I open Internet explorer, it does not open smoothly. It opens up halfway then hangs before showing the full screen.
c) IE takes a long time to load.
d) While scrolling down a pdf document, it also gets stuck halfway(pauses), then reaches the bottom of the page later from where we had scrolled earlier.

I had done a few things that could resolve this, but the issue still persists. Some of the things that I have done :
1) Run a disk cleanup
2) Run a disk defragmentation
3) Clean up the browsing history and allow it to last only 1 day
4) Updated the a/virus software

However these things still do not resolve the problem.

Furthermore, in task manager, the Performance Monitor shows high spikes for Disk and CPU usage. How do I reduce the spikes?

What else could be the problem, and how do are resolve them?

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

You can try these steps to see if it is an app causing the issue:
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Or you can remove HP's junk with a fresh/clean install:
Clean Install Windows 7

The problem is likely the inferior Factory Preinstalled Win7 with all of the bloatware and duplicate utiltiies which have better versions built into Win7. These throttle Win7 from its native performance. HP's have the worst load of bloatware in the industry.

That's why most tech enthusiasts will not run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything is provided in the blue link tutorial.

At the minimum I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

If this doesn't resolve performance problems, work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit

Thank you so much for the reply.

However, for the clean reinstall, the available ISOs for Windows 7 with Media Refresh does not have the Enterprise edition listed. So is it possible to use the current Win 7 ENT installer dvd that I have with me instead?

I am working to resolve this problem on a client's laptop btw. I am a System Engineer in a company in Malaysia.

Yes you can use the Enterprise installer you have but you'll need to immediately install all Important and Optional Updates (including SP1 if not included) after install to get the latest performance, security and driver updates. This will require several rounds of Updates with reboots.
