    HELP...hp laptop black screen

    Have tried everything.

It powers on, fan runs, screen stays black with internet light red and caps lock steady white blink every 4 seconds.
Have tried removing battery, power cord, holding power button for 30 seconds.....
    Tried removing mem and starting.
    f8 does nothing....

    Hi,

    1. Have you tried plugging in an external monitor?
    2. Do you get the Splash screen at start.......anything?
    3. Can you get into the BIOS?
    4. Can you boot into safe-mode?
    5. Is the screen totally black or can you see anything faint at all/backlight etc?

Also, your laptop model may have a design flaw. And this maybe an answer:

Open the screen to a wider angle before pushing the power button. If the angle of the screen to the keyboard is less than 90 degrees it appears to trigger the problem. By opening to wider than 90 degrees, the problem goes away. Once the screen is activated it doesn't matter what angle the screen is put at. The wide angle is only necessary at boot up.
    Cheers

External monitor shows black screen too.
No splash screen, just power on, hear fan, hear dvd drive noise, then black screen with internet led red and caps lock led steady white blink.

Tried window key/b/power for bios, nothing...
    Tried f8 , nothing.
Shined bright light on screen...just black, see nthing.

    Tried wider angle, didn't help.

If you do not get a display on the external monitor it might be an issue with the video card
or the system board where it is connected.
When you connect an external monitor to the system press the Fn and F1 keys together to toggle between the displays, if it doesn't work you can only with the F1, and check if you get display on the external monitor.

Also see this guide from HP for troubleshooting blank screen issues but I think perhaps it wont help:
