I know nothing about the prices where you live.
If you need 16 gigs then install 16 gigs of match ram.
What kind of prices can you get on ram where you live?

16gb ddr2, about R4 000 and higher. You can pay that much for and 250gb xbox 360 two controllers, and like 5 games. or a kinect and 1 game. or a PS3 and accessories and games. Two washing machines. A High tech fridge. An HD tv. etc

Rendering HD is very cpu intensive. I'd say the OP's bottleneck is his old processor. Buying DDR2 won't change that. I do a lot of rendering and I saw a massive performance boost when I went from a Q9400 to a i7 930, ditto when I went from that to i7 2600K.

Hmm... Well thats just out of the question. The latest i7 costs around R12 000 and up. You can get a Galaxy S4 or a BB Z10 with that.
That would also mean new motherboard and new Ram. So we're looking at around 10k. If this doesn't improve my experience by even 5% then my last option is selling everything and starting again.
