    unexpected waking up from hibernating

I have a sony vaio laptop. I lately started using the hibernation to shut-down the pc. I sometime find it waking up by itself! following suggestions found on the Internet does not seem to help!

disable waking up by network devices
    put the pc into hibernation
    switching off wifi
    disconnect power cable

the above did not seems to prevent it from waking up to waste battery energy.

Any suggestions? Please give detail step-by-step instruction if you could.

    Thanks.

If I were you I would never use hibernate, the only time i let my computer hibernate is when the battery dies, other than that I only just shut it down or put in on sleep mode

Have you checked advanced power options?
    Example: Hybrid,Hibernate
To Hibernate yes, maybe conflicts with Hybrid yes.
To Hibernate only turn Hybrid to never.

Use this tutorial to see if you can determine what caused the PC to wake up.
Wake Source - Read Event Viewer Log

There are more links at the end of that tutorial that can help.
Take a look at this one to determine what can wake the PC.
Devices - See Devices that are able to Wake Up the Computer

Hi Wizzard -- I go through Control Panel to disable network adapters from waking the computer up. Where do I find advanced power options?

Hi DavidW7ncus -- following your suggestions, I found that the only devices armed to wake system up are keyboard and mouse. It is usually closed so keyboard can't be it; I do not use mouse either. I also can't find from the log any events waking up the system. I will watch when that happen again and then go into the log again to see if I can spot the event.

Thank you both for your great suggestions!

Maybe if you right click on battery icon in system tray, you should see power options there, left click power options, when popup screen opens you should be advanced settings in there.

    Try this too.
Right click your desktop background, properties/personalize, screen saver<>power<>you can adjust your advanced power settings there.

    Maybe look here>>http://docs.esupport.sony.com/pc/SVT...toc_05_14.html

Following your tips, I disable the "sleep wake out timers." I hope this solves my problem.

In a couple of days, if the problem does not appear again, i shall then mark it as 'solved'.

    Thank you!

My laptoph hibernated through 2 wintry nights without waking up. I assume that the fix works! I have therefore marked problem solved.

Thanks to Wizzard and everyone for helping.
