There was malware on one of the toolbars they tried to sneak in on me (SavIt).

    Deception

I get so tired of walking a literal "minefield" when trying to get a free download. They try to put in toolbars to take over your browser, plus all these other junky programs. It's a good thing I use Avast! It arrested the Malware from ImGburn (SaVIt) that tried to insert itself on my computer. If anyone knows of a safe (without the other worthless programs) download to get a burner, please let me know.

    Try this one

CDBurnerXP: Free CD and DVD burning software

Regarding img burn you could uncheck the items you don't want like the toolbars so they won't get installed .

Ok I downloaded it with no incidents. It only asked for one other program which I refused. I'm trying to test it by recording a video file. I have DVD-R's,but it rejects them. I wonder if I need the DVD-RW?

    Create Data-CDs/DVDs
    • burn any Data on CD-R/CD-RW/DVD+R/DVD-R/DVD+RW/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM/BD/HD-DVD, including double layer mediums
    • Supports burning data on permanent backup M-Discs, which promise up to 1000 years of data preservation.
    • burn mp3-CDs to store many audio files on one single disc
    • create bootable discs
    • Disc spanning: Spread data on multiple discs
    • verify written Data automatically after burning process
    • use either the internal browser to add your files or the intuitive Drop-Box to drag and drop files directly from any Windows Explorer window
    • save your compilations for creation of backups
    • burn on-the-fly and with buffer-underrun protections
    • import previous (ISO 9660) sessions and edit existing file structure on CD/DVD

You should be able to use DVD-R but I am not certain: HP Compaq 6910p Specs - Laptops - CNET Reviews

    Optical Drive DVD±RW (+R DL) / DVD-RAM
    Read Speed 24x (CD) / 8x (DVD)
    Write Speed 24x (CD) / 4x (DVD±R)
    Rewrite Speed 10x (CD) / 2x (DVD-RW) / 2.4x (DVD+RW) / 2x (DVD-RAM)
You should be able to use a DVD-R disc as DVD-RW should include DVD-R

DVD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I would try a DVD-RW though if you have any. A DVD+R, DVD+RW or a regular CD should be writtable as well...

I read the specs;it does appear a DVD-R should work fine.I'm at a loss concerning what the problem is here.

    no disc

Here's a shot of the error message I get every time when I have the DVD-R (blank) in the drive. This time I tried to burn music files after unzipping, I dragged and dropped.
