7 begs to be tweaked, for example:

It comes with services starting automatically that MOST home users do not need running, now your typical user has NO IDEA.

I know about Black Viper's site and handle these one by one, or I can let Boost Speed advise me on many and make the process EASY.

Mind you I back up the registry beforehand and a good tool offers this and restoring ability.

Tweaking wise example #2: Default internet settings, and there are TONS of settings, again a typical user has NO IDEA, and again, Boost Speed has the insight and automatically will handle it, or you can manually change them.

Screen shot of that list in it's entirety, thanks to owning a Portrait monitor. 8)

I'm aware of msconfig/startup ect. All those kinds of things can be done using Windows 7. No need for tweaking out side of Windows.
The post I see here about the Black Viper's site indicate to me it causes more problems than McAfee.
Their are many things you can do to Windows 7 using Windows 7 and a lot of them can be found here. I use some and some I don't. Changes using this can easily be put back to default if one choses to do do.

    There was a reason I didn't link BV's site.

I used it for information on services, common sense can't always prevail easily when basic info for decision making is lacking, and I am no M$ fanboy who will accept defaults when there is better values to be had.

I've been using Windows since 1992, would you have advised me to not tweak QEMM either? muhaha

Other then my own tweaking, I only use Ccleaner, and I don`t even use that as a tweaking tool.

My pc runs so good, I have no reason to really mess with 7

Faladu I'm not telling you to do or not to do anything. You can do as you please.
What we tweaked in the old days with older operating system in my opinion is not needed in Windows 7.
    Have a nice day.

I am just joking with you LB.

If $ didn't matter, I wouldn't have any of this hardware and wouldn't need to tweak.

No one else uses performance/tweaking tools?

mztweak.com has a reasonable free series, worth a mention, not been updated in a long time.
glarysoft.com has a free tool, but tries to sell ya the pro version with more, but not too unreasonable.

Most of the things in this guide I have done:
    Optimize Windows 7

    Performance Management:

    Autoruns
    CCleaner + CCEnhancer
    Defraggler
    Glary Utilities Pro

For cleaning out junk/temp/etc. files, I follow this routine:
1> Run Disk Cleanup from My Computer
    2> Update CCEnhancer
3> Run CCleaner - cleaning only junk files.
4> Then I run Glary Utilities - cleaning only junk files (basically I remove all junk files first).
5> Use CCleaner to clean registry (taking a manual backup first).
6> Use Glary Utilities to clean registry.
7> Once all of the files and related registry entries are removed, I then proceed with a full defrag.

This routine allows me to remove all of the junk files, remove all related registry entries (if any were related to those files + more), then consolidate all of those files to be contiguous.

    For security:

Comodo Internet Security Premium (Anti-virus + Firewall + Sandbox)
    Malwarebytes Anti-malware
    OkayFreedom VPN
    Peerblock w/ lists from iblocklist

    ---

For those who may be short on RAM, I used to use CleanMem when I had only 4GB. It's definitely a noteworthy program if you need it.

MSE, SAS, MBAM on the security end. Programs found in God Mode, mostly regedit and MSConfig for tweaking. BIOS and MSI After Burner for more tweaking and over clocking. CCleaner, Glarysoft Registry Repair, and RegSeeker are residents of my Tweaking folder. USBDview is handy for working with USB devises. The most important program is WD Backup for my occasional fubar.

In regards to Black Vipers site, the info contained is only a problem for those who don't know what they are doing. Kind of like people asking for specific OC settings, every cpu/mb is different.
