    Could I just try using System Recovery from Safe Mode to revert back to before the problem started?

    You could try to do a System Restore inside the System Recovery .

    While the PC is booting up press F8 and select Repair Your Computer then choose the OS and input user name and password ( if you have one ) and choose System Repair .

    I'll try that solution eventually, but for now it's no big deal. Thank you for all your help.

    This issue might not be solvable. If the solution you just gave me doesn't work I'll probably just buy another copy of windows 7 and re-install.

    If you need a "temporary" solution for searching you can try Filelocater Lite (free).
    FileLocator Lite - Free File Searching Utility
    It doesn't require indexing.
    I've been using it for years without any issues.
    Unfortunately it doesn't make up for the Windows search box in the Start menu for finding programs quickly...

    If you have a valid license you don't need to buy another copy of Windows to re-install!

    If you have a legit Product Key for your Windows 7 you could use the link below to download a legit version of Windows 7 SP1 and use Windows 7 USB\DVD TOOL

    No code has to be inserted here.

    @VistaKing
    I know your light years ahead of me, but would a Repair Install be worth trying before doing a reinstall?
    Repair Install

    If Mister Fox is ok with a reinstall, that's probably the best.
    But if he would rather try fixing the current install to keep all data, programs, etc., try a repair install first?
