Defragging SSD drive in Windows 7 Pro

The above posters are correct, an SSD should never be defragged for any reason. Is the OP sure his SSD is being defragged. Windows, if you have mechanical drive too, puts the defragmenter on a schedule, but always leaves the SSD out of the schedule. If you prefer to set it to manual, as I do, Click start, type defrag, click on the disk defragmenter entry, click on the schedule button, and uncheck the 'run on a shedule'. You will have to check your mechanical drives yourself, but it won't defragment your SSD.

I thought Windows 7 did this as well. Can't check as I don't have W7 on a SSD now.

According to this tutorial,

Optimize Drives - Defrag HDD and TRIM SSD in Windows 8

It is not actually running the defrag but Trim instead.

If I understand this correctly it looks like Windows defrag works differently in Windows 8.
In Windows 8 a trim is run for an SSD.
In Windows 7 nothing is done for an SSD.

Does anything need to be done in Windows 7 to do a "normal scheduled trim" ?
i.e. Is there a different scheduled task for this in Win 7?

I believe there is no manual control of trim in windows 7, it is done automatically on start up or shut down, not sure which. Happy to be corrected if am wrong.
