    problem with cpu temperature !

hello friends this is my first thread and starting with a problem.
Ok i have a intel P-4 520 @2.6(never overclocked). I have a stock fan installed on it. I installed this systam in last winters( 6 monts ago)so that time i didnt noticed overheating problem. But now in summers, here room temp is around 40c. On normal load it hits 90c. And hangs up. So what should i do to solve this problem. I think buying a water cooler will be too expensive for a P-4. Any other solution?

    Hello ranganitesh,

Have you cleaned the stock cooler lately? It could be built up with dirt and dust.
You could also replace the thermal paste between the cooler and the cpu.

Failing that you could upgrade to a better aftermarket air cooler, any half decent air cooler that supports 775 socket should bring the temps down a bit.

Well that is not good then. How much thermal paste did you use? Most guides I have seen recommend a small amount the size of a grain of rice. I am just wandering if maybe you put too much on.

Are you sure you are getting enough airflow through the case?
You could try running it with the side panel off, and if you have a fan, have that blowing into the case.

Hmm mate as Paul says how much did you put on it and how well did you clean the old off? Plus are you sure the unit is fixed down straight?

As a general rule I spread the thermal with an old credit card thinly over the entire heatsink and the cooler plates then add that tiny drop to "bleed" out as it heats up.

I don't know what compound you are using but these are the ones I use all the time now.
    Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean

Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5
    or
Noctua.at - sound-optimised premium components "Designed in Austria"!
the latter is a little thicker and best applied if the compound tubes is warmed up a little (in your hands)
