How do you know that the cumulative size of your files is 49GB if you never used a proper tool to tally all the files. What you think you see is not the whole story.

Suggest you run this program - then you know for sure. Post a snip of the resulting picture. Then we'll go from there.

Yes I understand your space issue and my suggestion to use Treesize was not a frivolous one for various reasons.
But if you don't want to, then try this instead:

    Run from elevated command prompt:
    vssadmin list shadowstorage

See what's hidden (and doesn't show up in Windows Explorer totals) and how much space it's allocated.
    May help.

The second screen shot in post #1 is what I see when I open My Computer, open the C drive (the 80GB SSD), highlight all files (see screen shot in this post), right click and select properties. I have show hidden files & show system files turned on, so I should see everything on the drive right? But when the properties window comes up with the size of all files selected, it shows the size on disk as about 49GB.

You keep fooling yourself. You are not seeing everything and unless you run the program I suggested earlier, you'll be in the dark. And post the resulting picture.

You obviously do not have a shadowstorage problem. That was clear from one of your earlier posts.

WinDirStat looks to do the same thing as my suggested Treesize app...or is it better in some way ?

Do you see any <Unknown> files listed in WinDirStat?
Can you post the screen print of WinDirStat?

It is easier to find the big files because you get a picture of the filespace like this.

And you can manipulate the files directly from there - e.g. delete a file.
