Fresh Windows 7 install large performance loss

Hello an welcome Sam now mate I never install over a running version of any OS I always clean the drive before I do a clean install as even a format is in my mind not good enough.
See this Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command a clean is the quickest and a clean all is more thorough but can take a very long time depending on the size and type of drive.

I do that and then do this
Clean Install Windows 7 I opt to use the ISO download and the best link (for me) is the Microsoft Software Recovery that way you have the freshest copy of Windows 7 and it will contain more updates already too which will save you some time with them

Now I am guessing here that that is probably a bit of residual 10 left on that drive and I would go back and do what I do but the choice is yours because you could be stuck trying to fix the darn thing for the sake of doing what I have outlined above.

Now before you do the install make sure you download any drivers you are going to need when installing and I always have the LAN and WLAN drivers for the board ready so as to allow access to the net without too much mucking around.

But again the choice is yours my friend:)

A quick question though. with the Disk clean do i just need to clean the drive running windows or both drives?

Just a bit scared to clean the drive running OS as surely that will just make the system shut down.. and er be upset?

No mate you will need access to another machine to clean the OS drive as it cannot obviously clean itself. So you can either hook it into another machine or use a USB to SATA adaptor making sure in DISKPART you pick the right drive .
Then follow what Megahertz and I have pointed out I know it is a pain but it saves a lot of grief in the end.

Now if you do not have a SSD for the OS drive now might be a good time to get one if the budget allows and then you will not have to bother with the clean
Now they are reasonably cheap now and you can get say a 120GB or (preferably) a 250GB one for the OS and use the others for storage and later on even clone the OS drive to a larger SSD if you would like to do that.

Well it looks like I thoroughly jumped the gun on this one.

I ended up cleaning the SSD that my OS was installed on from the windows installation screen and then left it to run. Coming back this morning, my pc now only boots into bios and will no longer boot into the windows usb let alone the SSD.

No you didn't drop the ball my friend it needed doing as long as you saved any of your data first .
