    Win 7 pro shutdown problem

It takes an incredible 21 minutes for my system to shut down. I bought a PC cleaner product highly recommended by PC Magazine only to have it really mess up my system.Their tech support was clueless and no help at all. They only offered to refund my money, but not correct the problem their software created.
I can only say I get a very brief flash of a message that says Task Host Window shutting down and then it takes 21 minutes to do it.
If any of you people who sell these products are on this forum, you should make it a automatic feature to back up the registry before you mess with it. Not an option, but automatic before you even do the scan. I am really ticked and I hope someone will be able to help me. It now also takes 4 minutes to boot up instead of the 45 seconds it used to take. No I did not back up the registry, but as I said it should be automatically built in to the product.

    Thanks to all
    Tony

    Hi,

Firstly completely uninstall this product - many cause more problems than they claim to fix.

    Now do this:
    1. Click Start
    2. In the search box, type cmd
    3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
    4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

Golden, I used my Norton one to try to diagnose the problem...it said it could not fix it but recommended I use chkdsk to repair the problem. I started chkdsk with administrator option and it took an unbelievable 8 1/2 hours to complete the repair. I thought my computer would never run again..When it completed fixing the many errors that it found,it shuts down now in about one minute and all my programs run faster and no crashes so far.
Thought you might be interested in the results.

Great result! For completeness, run as follows:

    1. Click Start
    2. In the search box, type cmd
    3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
    4. In the command window that opens, type chkdsk /R and hit enter.

You will be prompted whether you wish to schedule a chkdsk scan at next startup, type 'Y' and hit enter. Now restart your computer and chkdsk will automatically run.
