    replace system file

i have a dell 14 laptop that will not boot win 7. startup repair cannot fix it. indicates 'fvevol.sys' is corrupt or missing. i have a system repair disc, and a set of recovery cd's. no original OS media, just what was made from the pc. from the command prompt, i have made sure the partition is active in diskpart. bootrec tools do not work, fixmbr, fixboot, rebuildbdc. i have also gone thru the steps to manually rebuild the bcd. it will not boot to any mode. i can get cmd prompt after startup repair runs, and also with the repair disk. no system restore point are available. cannot run sfc in this state. pls advise
also, the dell pre boot assessment all check good, including hard drive. i can put the drive in a caddy, and see all the important docs, pics, etc are still there. start up repair recognizes the os, but cannot fix it. if this cannot be fixed, i will save the data, get replacement media from dell, and reinstall. would really like to get the boot file replaced or fixed.

    Hi Clark Kent,

Please check this tutorial below which outlines all possible steps for resolving no boot issue for the system:

Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

As you have already run the diagnostics then you can check the link below for requesting backup discs for the system:

Kindly ensure there is no USB drive,CD or Media Card inside the system when you are booting it. Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.
