Windows shutdown - 10 hours and counting - any resources

    Hi,

My initial problem, which began yesterday, is that Windows is hanging on the shutdown screen. 10 hours now and counting - I switched off when I went to bed, it's still switching off.

I notice that there are a few threads and I will have a look through the threads on here, see what people suggest.

This thread here: Windows 7 64 bit Hangs on Shutdown & More looks like the one to follow. If those steps work - great

Problem is, if they don't then as gregrockers says "There are even more steps once we are convinced you have completed all of the others. Start at the top of the thread." - is there a link to these subsequent steps? Does anyone have them in a readily accessible format so I can just follow them without having to bother people for support? You're all lovely people and I hate to waste your time and good will with stuff I could just follow and get fixed.

In the meantime I'll start at the top of that thread and work down.

    Thanks

    Have you recently installed new
    Hardware
    Software
    Drivers

If you manually power down after it freezes does it start normally or does it start with the improper shutdown screen?

    Hardware - don't think so
Software - just installed an Android virtualised dev platform on there but nothing's been added to the start up list (it was but it got taken out immediately).
    Drivers - recently no.

Manually powering down after the hanging it restarts normally...

It's not a system crash then. It may be the new Android software that is freezing at shut down. Does the animated spinning ball on the shut down screen stop spinning? One of my older boxes does this because it's not happy with the VIA USB driver, hangs about half the time, bugs hell out of me but I just push reset...and keep looking for a better driver.
