cannot create system repair disc error 80070057

    Hi

I'm using Windows 7 ultimate RTM and cannot create a repair disc image anymore. i get the error code 0x80070057 incorrect parameter with a dvd inserted. I'm really not sure what's causing this...

Thanks in advance for any replies

Curious error - do you only get it when trying to create a recovery disc?

Is windows all up to date?

Dvd is a waste - it fits easily on a cd-r.

yeah. all the latest updates are on windows from the windows 7 page (of course not all the optional updates but those are irrelevant anyways). Well I can try a cd-rw next time around if i can get this to work somehow.

I'm wondering if repair installation might be a good idea to fix this if there aren't any other options

Hello v432, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It will not hurt anything to do a repair install to be safe though. Hopefully you will be able to create a system repair disc afterwards. :)

    Thanks for all the replies.

I did a repair installation and it does create a repair disc but requires me to insert the installation disc first. Only after that can I insert a blank disc to create an image.

    Is that unusual?

Strange - have a look on the root of the drive for a hidden folder called Recovery. It claims to be empty.

Copy and paste it to your downloads folder .It should containn boot.sdi and winre.wim.

    v432,

That is unusual. If you look in Disk Management, do you have the 100MB System Reserved partition?

apparently I don't seem to have that. I only have a main partition (C:) with 9mb unallocated and then it just shows the optical drive in the disk management.

Go to folder Options - show Hidden Files and protected o/s files - find the Recovery folder - follow steps in my previous post.

I did copy the recovery folder to the downloads folder and it does contain the files you mentioned but I'm still getting insert windows 7 installation disk before I can create a system repair disk.

Apparently there's two copies of winre.wim in the subdirectories of the recovery folder if that's relevant. One in the Temporary subfolder and one in a subfolder that's named with a lot of numbers and dashes that also contains boot.sdi

    Thanks for the advice though
