no sleep after wake on lan

So it sleeps no bother normally but it seems that if my htpc has woken it with a wol magic packet, it will not go back to sleep , ever unless manually put to sleep. Rebooting and automatic sleep works again. I recently reinstalled windows and have looked atvevery setting I can think of. Including unattended sleep timeoutvin gpedit which I have tried not config and set to one min. Powercfg shows nothing.

I have been searching the internet and it seems that this situation is unique.

To clarify, sleep works fine but if the computer is woken with a magic packet from any source it does not then go back to sleep after inactivity. Even the monitor stays on.

In gpedit I have tried disabling allow applications to prevent sleep under power options with no change.

Anybody got any ideas, this is driving me crackers!

    Power options, sleep-allow wake timers

is it set to enable or disable?

    Also try the lastwake command.
    Lastwake Command

Make sure it was the magic packet.

Wake timers is set to disabled, the last wake command does show it was the nic, there was one time when it woke up by itself after being put to sleep manually that it said wakeup source unknown.

It could be drivers.....I would visit the computers manufacturers website and look for any updated drivers for the system.

If its a self build, I would look for updated drivers for all my hardware, motherboard website and graphics card drivers.

Its is a self build using a MSI h87-g43 motherboard. I have tried updating all of the drivers to no avail. I thought it may be something to do with the graphics (intel hd4600) as the display will never dim either after a wol. I have also tried with a spare network card I had lying around, the same.

I have posted on the msi forums too. I suppose I could try a diff os as a test too.

Maybe try uninstalling all drivers for video, and then restart. Then reinstall them.

    See if that helps.

No joy, its absolutely doing my head in. As a work around I am using a program called smart power which while not ideal is working.

Uninstalling the usb 3 driver AND grahics driver and re-installing solved the issue. However it came back after a week, same procedure solved again. VERY annoying!!!!
