    Faster CPU = Lower WEI

I recently up-graded my cpu from a Q8200 to a Q9400, before the up-grade my WEI for the CPU was 7.3 but with the new Q9400 im getting 7.1, yes it’s a lower number.

After looking around at other peoples scores It seems that my old Q8200 was a fast one and my new Q9400 is a slow one.

    Would anyone like to comment.

Why would a chip running 300mhz faster and with more cache give a lower WEI reading?

It could very well be the processor itself. Try as they might to be consistent, there is always going to be variance in processors of the same model, even if we were to use two processors from the same production run. It's plausible that you indeed had a Q8200 that could handle more calculations per second than your current Q9400. Regardless, I wouldn't read too much into the WEI scores, as they are not a reliable indicator of real world performance.

The WEI is merely a 'guide' rather than a serious indication.

Were you overclocking that Q8200 by any chance?

You guys are right, I remember building two identical systems (p4’s) then doing a benchmark test on both of them, One had faster CPU and memory scores then the other.

    Overclocking:

The WEI score for the Q8200 out of the box was 7.3

The Q8200 clocked to 2.8ghz WEI score was still 7.3

The WEI score for the Q9400 out of the box was 7.1

The Q9400 clocked to 3.2ghz WEI score is 7.2

    3D mark 06 CPU scores:

    Q8200 @ 2.3ghz = 3699
    Q8200 @ 2.8ghz = 4379

    Q9400 @ 2.6ghz = 4216
    Q9400 @ 3.2ghz = 4981

So the WEI score is lower for the Q9400 then the Q8200 but the 3D mark 06 CPU score clearly shows an a speed increase when the Q9400 is clocked to 3.2ghz.

I guess you can’t go by the WEI CPU score as a true measure of the CPU speed, at least I hope so after spending money on a faster better CPU and getting a lower score.
