    slow and thrashing

After doing a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium, my desktop became very slow and noisy. The hard drive seemed to be always thrashing, and windows explorer lagged. After reading the many similar posts, and trying all the fixes, what finally worked for me was uninstalling AVG 9 Free. I am thrilled with the results on my less than optimal computer. It is fast and quiet since uninstalling AVG. No errors in event log.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.

You may want to even do a clean install, if it's no hassle, to make sure that all the AVG files are gone for good. I had to do that after another program caused BSODs, even after uninstalling it, it had messed up the registry so that it would crash on resuming from sleep occasionally.

It's no surprize as AVG has also been causing memory leak problems for many. As usual, anti virus programs causing more problems than the programs they are trying to stop.

there is an AVG Remover Tool:
AVG Antivirus and Security Software - Tools download
it found pieces left over from my uninstall. Thanks Zen00 for the heads up.
