the full scan for malware bytes completed before I came home for dinner break. Hubby said there were no items found. Also said that laptop, after finishing that scan and while just sitting here idling in between him doing things, was just shutting down.
He did the unplug the cord method and left it sit for awhile and then turned it back on. All times it did turn on, though with that screen that says you can start win in safe mode or normal.
He did normal and it was ok.
Going back to work now so we shall see what tomorrow brings. Thanks again for all of your patience and help.

    Hi Gregrocker!

just wanted to let you know that we have pronounced our laptop dead. I have been unable to get her to start since the last time I had her up on Thursday before leaving for work. I have tried everything suggested and get nothing. Battery only, cord only, moving her to a different wall outlet, battery and cord and the only thing we get is the initial sound that she would make when 1st starting up. And then nothing but a very faint sound that I would guess is just power noise or maybe fan noise?

No clicking or other weird noises from the hard drive - just an almost eerie silence.

thanks for all of your attempts to help though, it was greatly appreciated!!!!!

Did you try removing battery and and AC adapter, hold power button down to drain residual power, then try to power up using only AC adapter, then battery?

If there is any activity at all I'd remove RAM sticks then power up to see if you get beeps indicating the mobo is alive.
