Computer is freezing at random time

    Hi

In last few days Chrome has begun to freeze at random times, leaving me unable to scroll or press any button, If i try to type anything then it is frozen and not being shown up immediately,it is being shown up few moments later when it unfreezes.. It is very much annoying to say the least..

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit..

Can you guys please help me out??

    Thanks in advance

    Hello Tavish,

Is Internet Explorer affected, as well?

This could be Virus or Malware related.

Are you experiencing odd behavior anywhere else on your system?

When did you first notice the issue with GC?

Did you downloaded anything just before the issue started?

Accept a popup update, or open email from an unknown source?

Well John,IE seems to be okay till now,it is not freezing like google chrome... i mean till now i am not noticing any problem with IE... seems to be okay

this problem actually started from using facebook... i dont accept any pop up s or any other kind of facebook apps too often.. but i noticed that whenever i used to log out of my profile then it did hang up for few seconds and during that period nothing i could do.. i also checked the System MOnitor just immediately after system comes to unfrozen state from frozen state.. and i found that there my CPU usages is going up to 100% for few brief moment.. and during that time i just cant even move the mouse pointer on my desktop.. but it is for short duration but it happens consistently...previosly my system used to freeeze only during loging out from facebook but it is happening every now and then.. not just facebook, whenever i surf.

Just because of this annoying problem i became fed up and few days before i downloaded an app named "speedupmypc".exe for checking registry errors and any other performance related issues, i just tried to fix this on my own... but it didnt help me significantly as it was a just a free version..it showed few hundreds of errors but fixed only 1 or 2...

but it installed AVIRA search bar.. in GC.. which i later uninstalled during uninstallation of the app.

currently i have neither of them.. I have been using Quickheel Guardian Antivirus and it is regularly updated..i have run it for MALWARE and Virus Check.. but it found nothing

if you can give me any fix it will be of much help for me.. THanks in Advance..

    This is a problem.

Download Malwarebytes anti malware and do a full system scan

    Hello McTavish,

Your PC can get infected from sharing information on Social Networks. When you click on a link, you never know what your getting...

I've never heard of Quick Heal Antivirus...I had to look that one up. This program may of installed unwanted Malware during it's installation.

After reading the reviews, I personally would not recommend using this for your Antivirus protection.

Looked in your profile to see where you are located, so I could recommend a better replacement for your Antivirus.

For now, I'd say use free AVAST. Uninstall QHA before installing another Antivirus. You can not have two Antivirus programs at one time. They will conflict with one another and cause false positives.

But, if your in the US and use Comcast, then you would use Norton 360, but not their Constant Guard. If your ISP is ATT, then use McAfee. Both, are free with either of these ISP services.

So, let us know which way you want to go there. You'll need to run a full scan with a trusted Antivirus program.

You could also, download and run an online Antivirus scan from ESET.

During the troubleshooting process, it would be a good idea to remove GC, and use Internet Explorer, for now.

You'll need to download a few different tools to remove Spyware and Malware.

Later, once your cleaned up a bit. You can have a site Moderator move your post to our System Security Forum. Once there, they will have you download a couple of system scanning tools, run scans, then post logs results for analysis. If more is found, they will continue the cleanup.

Here are the tools you'll need to run after you've ran a virus scan:

    AdwCleaner Download

    Junkware Removal Tool Download

    TDSSKiller Download

If you have trouble downloading. Use SAVE AS, to the DESKTOP.

    Run Disk Cleanup.

Download and run Auslogics Disk Defrag.

Thank you John,You have given me so many instructions .. i will be surely following each of them and let you know about the health of my system. just give me some time...

i am located in INDIA ..... but one thing i can tell you that Quick Heal is a good antivirus program to have.. i have been using it for past 2 yrs and this is my 3rd year on going and during this 2 and half years i did not face problems pertaining to viruses... prior to it i tried avira, then avast, all free versions though....... but i used to have viruses penetrating my system... that actually made me to stop using free versions and buy one.. in INDIA Quick Heal is a well recommended antivirus program in an affordable price... that's why i also opted for it..

What should be the replacement of QHA in INDIA?can you recommend one....

and if you put emphasize on using avast then at last i would do it.....

    Hello McTavish,

I don't know how well QHA works... never used it. The reviews I read about QHA, were not so good. But, if you feel it's protection is adequate... then keep it. I personally use Norton 360 on all my PCs. It's free for me with my Comcast service. What you could do is try the 30 day free trial of Norton 360 2014. However, you would need to first remove QHA. After the 30 days, you could make your choice. Since you already paid for QHA, maybe reinstall that after the Norton trail period ends and use it until it expires. Then make you switch.

Keep us posted on your progress.
