    Disk Activity

i have a fresh install of W7 Pro 64 and finally got everything up and running on my new SSD. however, i get a lot of random disk activity. my Disk light on the front of my PC flashes quite a bit however it dos it sporadically. i have only 3 programs start with windows (steam, avast, realtek) and only 40 processes running. since im on an SSD, this kinda worries me. i do have prefetch enabled but only for boot files, and indexing is turned off. page file i have set to 1GB and system restore is set to 5.5GB. disk ativity jumps around a lot from 0kb/s to 200kb/s

also other than that, what else should i do to make sure SSD is running 100% and also to reduce writes and increase performance?

That's nothing. There will be always system disk activity for writing log files etc. And on a new system it may still be busy indexing.

Below is the current activity on my system - and I do nothing than sevenforums activity. And don't worry about your SSD. It will be fine.

In Performance Monitor, sort by Read then Write. Look in the File column and see what is doing the most reads and writes to disk. That may give you a clue to what is going on.

ok heres the SS. first one is reads second is writes and 3rd is total. this is with just avast, steam, and realtek running. everything else is closed. these values jump anywhere from 1k to 100k bytes.

if im just idle on my desktop, shouldent disk activity be close to 0? like i shouldent be seeing my HDD light lighting up especially when my D drive is tuned off (does so after 5 mins of inactivity)

Did you look in the file column for the ones with the highest numbers to see what program/service it is?

If you have a SSD. you can turn off Prefetch too. It won't buy you anything if your system disk is a SSD.
