cpu is overloading but no program are open.

i have noticed today that while in FL studio(fruity loops) my cpu usage instantly supassed 85 percent no programs where open but FL studio and firefox. I have sense then restarted my laptop. Only google chrome is running and my cpu usage is at 56 percent which is the max I have seen it so far while only chrome is running. This causes the letters I type to be typed seconds after I press the keys, web pages freeze during load, and my pc is just slow when this happens. What are some common things to reduce cpu overload.

Is this just a new happening? FL studio may use a lot of CPU cycles, Chrome is a confirmed resource hog.

To see what's using it, in the search box type resmon and tap Enter to open resource monitor, click the CPU tab then click the Average CPU column header to bring up the highest user to the top.
