Up to you actually. A backup SHOULD be enough for what you want. Having said THAT an image is always nice to have and has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. If you have a recent one it should be O.K.. I DO recommend having at least one image. I have one of a pristine new install and one of after I've installed my "usual" software. But in the end its your call.
In terms of speeding up, you system could have a few nasty things inside it,
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
- Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
- Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
- The tool will open and start scanning your system.
- Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
- On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
- Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
Great little program to keep handy!
I haven't run JRT in a while. I think I should run it. Thanks for the suggestion Devlin. I've done a backup of my WHOLE HDD but I'm thinking to save the idea of increasing the C: drive for later. Any other suggestions to speed up for now?
Well if you don't want to use ant software you can try this:
1.Go to start type run.
2.Type recent.
3.Delete all files in it.
4.Go back to start and type run again.
5.Type %temp% and delete all files in it .
When you attempt step 5 you cannot delete all files because some background programs will be running and those need the temporary files in that. So just don't worry deleting the files which cannot be deleted.
More over you can go to control panel and click Performance information and tools. In that click on Adjust visual effects and select Adjust for best performance. This can make your desktop look basic but this speeds up your system a little.
If you want to partition your drives try EaseUS Partition Master 9.2.1 Home Edition. Trust me i have tried this and this worked to increase my C drive from 32GB to 54 GB.
Hope this helps.
