The coverage of my screen has shrunk, how do i restore it?

For some reason the available screen area of the monitor is not being totally covered by the windows 7 Home 64-bit.

It was working and suddenly there are now inch and a half black vertical areas in both left and right edges of my screen.
    How do i correct that?

Should i increase the Display size view to 125% or 150% of the default 100% would that cause this disturbance?

    Will appreciate helpful suggestions

    Thank you kindly

Increasing or decreasing of your display size hurts nothing.
If you don't like the change you just go back to what you had before.
    Something changed your screen size.
Have you installed something new. A program, game, ect.
Is your screen changed all the time or just when doing certain things?

I have 2 separate issues. The real problem is that...

for some reason the covered screen has shrunk permanently. How do I return it to the earlier state where all screeen was covered?

After that is solved I might enlarge font to 125 or 150%

    Thank you

Check out the buttons on the monitor.
Maybe the vertical and/or horizontal need adjusting.

Black borders on side of screen.

A power surge can cause a resetting of a monitor. If you have made monitor adjustments - expanding vertical or horizontal boundaries, moving the image left or right, etc. - these setting can be lost if the monitor loses power unexpectedly.

If you leave your monitor on all the time, you may have had a power interuption and resumption that you are unaware of.

    Thank you all!

I have solved my problem. I downloaded Microsoft "FIX IT" software which found the issue and corrected it.

Thank you all for trying to help me.
