    chkdsk corrupts Windows 7

    I have used 7 on my computer since it was bought some two years ago. It suffered a fault, which turned out to be the power lead, but on it's return I did some housekeeping to clear out some unwanted files. I then ran chkdsk and upon completion, I received a message saying Windows had been altered and I know have a message on my computer saying Windows is not a genuine version! Any ideas please?

    What files did you clean out? Were any of them system related? "chkdsk" basically checks the entire drive for broken sectors and makes repairs. The message you received would be more likely to come from a system file check with the command "sfc /scannow". Are you sure the message was generated by "chkdsk"?

    Only old word and excel files and avg files which had expired. I did not run a scannow check and I cannot say that the messsage came from chkdsk. It worked perfectly ok when I had cleared out the files but when I went to ckdsk I had to close down and reboot for ckdsk to work. It worked progressively through the disc with several long pauses, then at around 50% suddenly rocketed up to 100%. No errors were found. When it finished rebooting, I got the "windows has been altered" message immediately thereafter, hence my thought of ckdsk having done something. Many thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

    Try running system file checker to correct the problem. Run it 3 times by using the instructions at the following site;

    http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-do...-file-checker/
    (You can ignore the last statement regarding a troubled-game.)

    Be sure to run 3 times.

    Strange message. It usually more like "windows has made corrections to the filesystem, no further action is necessary "

    If it says "windows has been altered" , I don't know where that came from.

    I did as suggested and each time the reply was that integrity problems were found.
    I then received a screen asking me to run a validity checker which I did the result was that my windows program was valid with an offer of free security services for a year!! My main screen no longer displays the "this windows program is not genuine". Whatever it was, you have solved the problem, very many thanks indeed!!!
