After disk defrag is run, Window7 stuck at blue Windows screen

I ran the Windows disk defrag program today, it ran thru 10 iterations or consolidations. After it was completed, I restarted the computer, it asked me for my login/password which it accepted, but it has been stuck on the blue Windows screen with the little circle to the left of 'windows' circling and circling. It's been doing this for 1/2 hour. I tried a hard stop, pressing the power button and then after 1 min started it back up again, chose 'Start windows normally' and it did the same thing. I also tried taking the battery out and waiting for a minute but it didn't even stop the computer, when I put the battery back in the circle by 'windows' was still circling away. and it just won't get any further.
