Windows check disk stopped at "xy file record processed"

    Hi,

I doubt the bad sector on hard disk, so I made check disk through the Windows 7 (not in cmd mode). In processing check disk stops at stage "2154545 file record processed" (2154545 is random number), and I wait for 2 hours but without any results. Why check disk stopped at this point? What next to do? Thanks!

Hello and welcome Shark Developer mate can you get into safe mode? If so try the chkdsk again.
Power up and tap F8 and when in safe mode try again using this
Disk Check if the first method doesn't work then try option 2.
    Post back what happens.

Thank you for reply. I will try both solutions. But can you tell me why check disk freezes at "2154545 file record processed"?

That I can't say why mate it could be due to a few things like the OS being a tad corrupted anyway.

Now might be a good time to back up all your data in case.

I solved my problem with special tool for Seageate HDD - SeaTools. SeaTools reported me that disk has bad sectors, but SeaTools marked him.

Also, I'm thinking about buying new HDD (cause this one has bad sectors).

Ok mate at least it is done but make that back up if you have any data you want. Now if you can afford it and don't use one for a lot of data a SSD would be an excellent choice for the boot hard drive and have a spinner for all your main gear.
