    I've uploaded a file - 828ad.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder 828ad in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
    (overwrite if necessary)

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

This tends to imply that you have either got malware problems, or disk problems...

Please run a full CHKDSK scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type
    CHKDSK C: /R
    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

Look for the results in the Event Viewer's Windows Logs - Application events, under the Source 'Wininit' They should be there - copy and paste the results to your reply.

I will have to get those results back to you tomorrow.

I am pretty certain there's some bad sectors on my drive but I am planning on getting an SSD in the not-so-distant future (week or so, depending on how much space I can free up so it'll fit and how long that will take).
I'm probably just going to clone the entire drive over, so should we wait until that has happened and then continue trying to fix those problems?

Your first priority must be to back up your data to external media - your drive may be on a slippery slope with a cliff it'll go over tomorrow!
Once that's done we can worry about the OS and other stuff.

I'm already in the process of creating a system image on an external drive, using Acronis.. Lets hope the bad sectors wont mess anything up.

I hope I have posted what you are asking for.
It seems to be cut off unexpectedly, but I found another chkdsk report from 14/3/14 that seemed a lot more complete ("Old Report.txt") so have attached them both below.

Your hard drive is DEFINITELY failing, back up your data to external media NOW - before it dies completely (If you haven't already).

I have made a full backup using Macrium Reflect due to Acronis freezing every time I start it up.
I have also ordered a SSD so that should be here in a few days. Could you recommend a good drive cloning program so I can just transfer everything in one go?
