I'm running a 120gb. Samsung ssd and is the only drive in use. I created a backup image and was just wondering, if I can delete the old backup and create a new image now with more updates on it without causing extra wear read/writes on the ssd? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Need more info please. Where are you creating the backup? Is it to an external hard drive as the title of your post says or where?
Don't worry about wearing out your SSD. I know folks obsess about this but just use it as you would any other drive.
What application are you using to make the "backup image"?
Are these images "full", or something else, such as "incremental"?
With an imaging application such as Macrium, each "full" image stands on its own and doesn't rely on any other file. Earlier full images can be deleted at will as long as you have no interest in returning to that point in time. Not sure that is true with "incrementals".
I don't know much about Windows built-in imaging application, so I can't say how it behaves.
I wouldn't worry at all about read/write wear on the SSD unless you are in a very unusual situation where you are beating it to death.
I just use the built-in windows image creator so far it seems to do a good job of restoring my two different towers. Each computer name is a little different so I can use the same usb hard drive for an image of both PCs. I suppose, I could use it to store dvd movies on also since I have a lot of extra space?
