if you have done system restore.. you might have deleted some installed programs.. (this depends on how much back you restored with system restore).. you can always undo the System restore.. and btw.. sysprep generally takes 5 mins or so for me.. and it does remove the custom pinned icons..but you can easily add them back again

I used a backup from a week ago. I looked and my files are actually still here on my computer. It is just that every shortcut on explorer is not working. I have to manually search through the directory. The memory error code I get is 0x80096001.

well try and do this.. copy all the shortcuts on the desktop to some other folder(as many as you can..casue some you may not be allowed to)..and then delete the ones on the desktop..and again copy back the shorcuts that you saved in the other folder

I think the problem is worse than that. When I type stuff into the start menu, there aren't even any results. I have to click through the files to open up what I want. BTW, I do have an installation USB that I made a few days ago to try to fix the sfc scannow problem, but it can't be used because windows says that it is not compatible with my system. I have checked my system and it says Home Premium SP1 and that is exactly the ISO that I downloaded but it still doesn't work.

Have you checked Task Manager to see how much memory you are using?
Do you have a Page File, and what size is it?

It's alright guys. I just reinstalled everything. It took me around 7 hours to get everything installed and updated but yeah, luckily I'm on holiday now. Thanks for the help.
