    System File Checker Problem

When I run the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) it hangs up at 31% and displays the message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." MS instruction's say to rerun sfc in safemode after verifying that %WinDiv%\WinSxS\Temp directory contains the PendingRenames and PendingDeletes folders. In my case the PendingDeletes folder is missing. I have verified that "Show Hidden Files" is selected and "Hide protected operating system files" is not checked.

I have search for how to correct this problem and have found nothing. Does anyone have any ideas here?

    Welcome tot eh forum BobK,

Have you tried running SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot. Could you also upload the CBS log file for us.

I think I just uploaded sfcdetails.txt. It was run from the Command Prompt but not at boot. Does that matter? The txt file is not very interesting, it simply hangs at the last entry.

I miss understood. I am not real savvy. I checked %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\ and there was no CBS logs file. Only FilterList.log was generated at the time. When I run sfc it simply hangs at "csi 0000010 Beginning verify and repair transaction." You can see that from the sfcdetails.txt.

I've requested a friend, Noel, to take a look at the log. :)

It looks to me as if the SFC scan crashed before completion.
Please post the full CBS folder, as described here -

Thanks for the help. I will get a chance this weekend to run the "windows update posting instructions" and get the results to you. I noticed that the last time I ran the sfc scan it left five *.log2 and one ntuser.dat files in my User directory. I can not open or delete any of the files; getting the warning that "... the file is open in System." I have no idea what "open in system" means. Nothing shows in Task Manager and closing and opening the computer does not change any thing. Again thanks for the help.

Those files are perfectly normal - you've enabled viewing of hidden and system files at some point. They are parts of the Current User registry hive. Please don't attempt to get rid of them!
