    Low CPU Subscore

    Hi,

I have just installed Windows 7 Pro 32-Bit and ran the WEI to find that my 3.0GHz CPU is only giving me a subscore of 1.6 and thus lowering my entire system index - can this be possibly correct?

I will be upgrading my CPU, RAM and Video Card shortly but I feel that a score of 1.6 for a 3.0Ghz is very low.

Anyone else recieved such a low score?

Hello, and welcome to the forums.

That is a rather low score for a CPU that should be rated alot higher, but WEI scores are nothing to go by, the ratings are highly inaccurate and at most times, just plain wrong, as in your situation. i wouldn't really worry about it, but if your after a real rating of your system try a 3rd party software. (I don't actually know of any off the top of my head, so do a bit of google searching, and your sure to find something)

The WEI is a comparison number only. MS decided on a base computer list that was probably dual core hence the lower number for a P-IV. I have a pair of P-IV'a running win 7 with aero nicely. To be honest I dont even think I ever ran the WEI because it worked

Dont sweat the number. If you are going to drop money on videa, ram, etc you might want to upgrade the whole computer. might be cheaper

It's all well and good that your processor is 3.0 Ghz, but you have to keep in mind that the processor is not rated based upon that alone. Sure, your processor is 3 Ghz, but it's left in the dust by a 2.66 Ghz Core i5, for instance. An older processor such as the P4 is going to receive a low score based upon it's relatively low bus speed, it's single core, and it's lower cache. Comparatively, it's slow and inefficient, despite the clock speed.

Is it anything to fret over? If the computer is serving the purpose that you need it to, then not really. As has been previously stated, the WEI score is primarily a comparative rating.

Najaboy is absolutely correct. The CPU subscore has a lot more factors then Ghz or Mhz to give you that number. 1.6 is pretty low and I would consider upgrading your computer.

    Cheers Guys,

The machine is doing everything I want but a tad slower than I would like plus my Dual Screen setup has ceased to function.

I know it might be better to upgrade the whole system and probably more cost effective so I'll give that some thought but I don't think it will be too expensive to upgrade this one.

I wasn't worried too much because like you guys say it's just a comparison but I was shocked that such a low subscore was obtained.

My motherboard can take a much more powerful CPU so I might switch that out first.

    Thanks again guys!

    Update

Just thought I would let you guys know I have updated the BIOS on my Motherboard so that it would support a higher processor and I decided to run WEI again just out of curiosity.

My CPU score rose from 1.6 to 3.4 and my memory score rose from 2.7 to 4.4!

I am very surpised a BIOS Update could affect such issues especially since my existing CPU was sorted and ran fine with the Motherboard anyway.

I am very cautious on performing BIOS upgrades in case I completely destory the Motherboard.

On a side note when my machine rebooted after the upgrade my screen stayed blank so I thought I had killed the Mobo until I heard the Windows Startup sound on my speakers.

It turns out the PCI video card that Windows 7 previous decided 'Could not Start' had kicked in and my working AGP Card was disabled.

If my speakers had not been switched on I would have put my PC down as being dead.

When I enabled my AGP Graphics card Windows decided after a reboot that my PCI Graphics card could no longer start - ah well.

1.6 on 3Ghz is very low I think it is Pentium.
I got 5.2 on Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.13GHz
