sfc /scannow gives Windows Resource Protection could not perform

I am trying to solve a problem and have used sfc /verifyonly as using sfc /scannow results in a message after about 9%
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the required operation.
I have downloaded the sfcdetails.txt as described but apart from numerous
Beginning Verify and Repair transaction messages
    I am no wiser.

Original problem is an error code 8007010B running windows update.

Thanks for the info I had run sfc as administrator.
I have repeated it and the result is the same
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation,
I have a feeling that the WRP is corrupt as well.
    Any more suggestions?
