Taskbar Slow To Respond When Display Turned On

I have my computer power settings on high performance and I'm using Windows 7. Whenever I "get off" my computer--whether it's to go to bed or work--I leave the computer on and let the display turn off. When I come back to the computer hours later, I jiggle the mouse to "wake" the monitor and the time in my taskbar reads a time a few hours behind the present. I have also noticed that I cannot click on any icons on the taskbar during this time. After a few seconds, the time updates and I can click on the icons.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Not sure if I should check something hardware related or software related.

This sounds to me like there could be a lack of ram. A lack of ram can cause the system to respond slowly or act in weird ways. I would try and up the amount of ram in your system if possible or take the system to a local shop and have them put in more ram if you are unsure how to do it.

You have more then enough ram.

Not sure why ram was brought up here. Something else is defiantly wrong.

You may have programs running at startup that is causing this issue. Please see this tutorial to temporary disable them and see if the issue is resolved:

I tried to do a clean boot and got the black screen of death. Some people on other sites say that getting a new mouse helps, which kind of makes sense because I have a logitech mouse and have had problems with it in the past.

You also want to try a repair install.

I already did a repair install to fix another error, but this one still kept happening. The memory diag test would tell me if something was wrong, right?

IF you cannot resolve, I suggest a clean install. But I still think it has to be a program causing the behavior.

If I had to guess, I would say it's ESET. I noticed when I tried to do a clean boot, it disabled all of my startup programs except for ESET. But it's my AV so I don't want to uninstall it lol.

Makes sense. For testing purposes though, you can uninstall it and see what happens. If the issue goes away you know it is the culprit.

    You can always reinstall it.
