Start>Computer>Windows Explorer Unresponsive with Green Loading Bar

When I go to the start button and then click on "Computer" in Windows 7 and Windows Explorer opens the drives won't appear and that green loading bar just slowly moves across the address bar. The green loading bar eventually fills the address bar and just sits there and pulses but Windows Explorer is unresponsive. If I restart my machine that usually fixes the problem, but not always as sometimes I need to restart twice or more.

Folders under "Computer" (in the column on the left) will open such as "Program Files" etc. but Local Disk (C) and the DVD RW Drive (E) for example (in other words Windows Explorer) won't load up and display the icons for the drives.

My machine is Win7 Pro 64 bit, Intel Core i7 with 8GB of RAM and lots of hard drive space left.

    How do I fix this?

    Check your HDD for errors:

    Disk Check

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________

Please Run sfc /scan now using option 2 in this tutorial: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Please post back the results.
Please indicate what message was displayed at the end:

    Windows found no integrity violations

    OR

Corrupt files were found, and windows was unable to fix them.

    OR

Corrupt files were found, and windows successfully repaired them

Before I do that I need to know what "Theming explorer/system files" is. I'm heeding the warning at the scannow website. By Theming does it mean the visual display (personalize feature) will be changed back to the default? or all my other personal settings changed back to the default - or both?

If I need to back these up before I do the scan where do I find the files and folders. Which system files do I need to be concerned about?

If you do not know what theming is, your not doing it. Its custom theming, unofficial mods.

Ok, and you have also done the disk check as well?

    Disk Check

What were the results of that?

How to see results when done:

Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log

    Disk Check

I apologize, I forgot to do that.

I'll do it now and get back to you. I do run disk check about once a month after I defragment, but I never knew how to read the scan log from the Event Viewer so I was just hoping and assuming file integrity corruption, if any, had been repaired.

No problem. What were looking for is bad sectors. If there is to many, windows will not be able to compensate.

You may have programs running at startup that is causing this issue. Please see this tutorial to temporary disable them one at a time and see if the issue is resolved:
