Note: On my system, after applying the Command Queuing tweak, I had no effect from applying it to any other port where enabled, so I suspect that WEI only tests a single disk.

Also, I had no effect whatsoever from removing the Write Caching from the drives either - however, the WEI test itself took over twice as long to complete. Therefore, I suspect caching is not taken into account in the WEI.

    (Sorry, Dave)

    Well John,

It looks like I do not even have that option for my SATA controller.

Nope - NCQ is not available through Intel Chipsets IIRC.

check all your other HD related devices, though, there may be something similar....

Also, you may want to check your mobo's BIOS and see if it is on, if it *is* supported by Intel....

And while you're at it, check for an updated BIOS for your board....

That could be it as well - but Shawn's board is a little over 3 months older than mine, IIRC - I remember reading through the thread over at Vx64 when he decided to build the new comp - according to his system specs, he has

    Motherboard Gigabyte X48-DQ6

So that should not be an issue, unless it is simply not ...

Oh, wait. I also installed the nVidia chipset drivers for my mobo - and *that* might be why *I* have the Command Queuing in my SATA controller properties....

That may be it then. Since nVidia is already working so closely with M$ they may have advanced features.

Now, I am curious - I want to know if this is a direct result of my chipset drivers install or if it is built in to W7 based upon the chipset detected when booting....

Anyone out there with nVidia chipsets, preferably nForce 7 (750/780/790) based machines that have not installed the nVidia Chipset drivers? If so, can you confirm if you still have the Command Queuing option available?

Well I have one but I have installed the drivers and the option is available, I just tried to disable it to see if it made a difference and it showed improved performance in the speed test but that had no effect on my WEI.

You're WEI was already high - which means that for some reason my WEI was measuring burst speeds not sustained, or else there is some other weird and cooky concoction of combination of parameters that I am not 100% aware of causing this massive fluctuation in WEIs.

I checked it on Vista as well and that too has this option and when disabled has the same effect, so it is more something to do with nvidia than anything else.

That is what I thought - I honestly did not remember seeing anything about Command Queuing until I started OCing - then it popped up everywhere.

Since Dave said to try the HD trick, I was gonna do that, but then thought that there must be something else - cause *disabling* write caching should not affect my performance for the *better*, in fact, it should be quite the opposite.

That is when I stumbled upon the Command Queuing setting in the SATA controller - and having read over and over about disabling NCQ when OCing on nForce based boards, I experimented - with the appropriate screen shots - and got extremely lucky.

But what is weird is that you have a 750 and I have a 780 - perhaps it is because of the drives you have? I am using a pair of Seagate 500GB 7200.11 (32MB Cache) HDs, and for the SATA controller connected to those 2 I could enable or disable CQ - bu for my 3rd drive, a WD 250 GB 16 MB Cache HD, the option is grayed out.

I am going out on a limb and venture that you either have Samsung HDs or Seagate HDs without the large large cache....
