Asus Laptop Still Slow After Windows Reinstall
Hi,
Over the last few months my Windows 7 ASUS X53E has been getting slower and slower. So the other day I finally got round to using the recovery disk to do a clean wipe of the hard drive and re install Windows. I did this about 18 months ago when I was experiencing the same performance problems and it was as good as new afterwards. However, this time it is just as slow as before. I have given it a few days to see if anything improved after I had installed all of the updates (which took about a total of 12 hours to download and install). I have read in various places that this could be because of the Hard Drive being on it's last legs, but I have only owned this laptop for 2 and a half years and have never filled any more than a quarter of the 750gb. Does anyone have any suggestions of ways to speed up my computer to the speed you would expect it to be at when doing a complete wipe of the hard drive? |

Hi,
You might try first posting this refresh the score, Show Us Your WEI [4] Although reloading windows fresh is a great idea how is the simple maintenance being handled ? Laptop like desktop are pretty good vacuum cleaners, When was the last time you opened and really cleaned it ? Large hdd on a laptop ? I suppose the w.e.i. will judge that ![]() Also fill in your system spec's page see the link above my sig. |

I would also suspect the disk. If I were you I would replace the HDD with a SSD.

I would agree with you. The only problem being that SSD is a lot more expensive. So for me to replace the 750gb I currently have would be a huge amount of money. So what sort of size would you recommend for me? I use my laptop mainly for general use and occasionally editing and sorting out photos. I use my external hard drive for storing everything other than programs.

I would take a 240GB SSD - something like those (my pick would be the Crucial M500 for $99). Then get an external enclosure - something like this for your current HDD.
Alternatively you can get a 1TB SSHD ( somrthing like those). That is not quite as fast as a pure SSD but not bad either. A while ago I made performance comparisons. You should look at the eSata nums because those come the closest to an internal disk. SSHD - Performance comparison with HDD and SSD |

Hi,
Also did you ever test the hdd ? The numbers look pretty good for a laptop :/ Onboard graphics is always going to be the lowest number on a laptop or even a desktop without a video card ![]() Review this, SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use After reloading windows and all it's updates you can use this as well, https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/307546-windows-updates-remove-outdated-updates-windows-7-a.html |
