Help needed! I have about 30 Com Surrogate processes that show up ...

after a while using the computer. This has just started today.

I ran Avira, MalwareBytes and SysBot and nothing shows up such as malware or a virus.

So I am at a loss about this. I am worried that my computer has been compromised.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Bud,

Looks like we are the only ones on the whole internet using Win7 with a problem of 30 to 50 Com Surrogate processes!

I'll start working on this issue past all the same scans that you did, that did not show anything malicious, today! I'll keep you posted as to what works!

I had to do a system restore to fix the problem.

I think what caused the problem was VLC Player crashing.

    Solved

As a temporary workaround I found that I could go to Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Settings(under performance tab) ; Then UNCHECK Show Thumbnails Instead Of Icons

    Restart the computer
Ahhh! Now I can at least work on the PC (with so many duplicate processes running my pc was stoneage slow!)

So then I tried installing VLC, that did nothing. Then I uninstalled it, nothing.

Then I created a new profile, and that check box was by default rechecked and everything was now normal(yay!) but then I copied all my old files over to that new profile and 5 minutes after that was done the duplicate processes began to build again. No!

So I found a post talking about how an image file maybe getting copied over from a corrupted or on-its-way-out hard drive was causing the problem...and that resonated with me because that was my situation. So I figured out all I had to do was look thru my pictures and movies for thumbnails that were -blank- and delete those images and or movies. I had one corrupted .bmp file and three .jpg files that were corrupt. Once deleted I restarted and finally - everything was normal again.

    Strange issue...hope this helps.

Okay guys, sorry no-one was able to help out here.

Can you both run a Full virus Scan.

    also

       Information
The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.
