83gb C drive nearly full again!

    My PC
Phenom II x 4 955 Black not overclocked - running normally
    Motherboard - Asus M4A79T Deluxe
    Memory 10gb - 2 Corsair 4gb DDR3 1333hz - 1 Corsair 2gb DDR3 1333hz
    Windows 7 Professional - SP1 - 64 bit
    Hard Drive WD 500gb

Before posting I tried to read through some earlier posts to see if there were answers to my problem, the only one which came close was Maniac13's laptop issue, sorry but it didn't help. So I'm going to have to ask for help, but first here is some background................

When I built this pc in 2009 I installed Windows XP and partitioned the drive into C - 50gb, D - 100gb, E - 100gb, F - 100gb, G - 150gb. I installed the operating system and some essential programmes on C drive, but other programmes like games, Skype etc., I put onto D drive, with the others taking my music and photos. I also have an External portable 1TB Toshiba which I plug in occasionally to back up the system.

4yrs ago I installed Windows 7, my C drive gradually filled to capacity, the machine froze many times and all the usual things happened.

Consequently, I Googled the issue and eventually found that Windows 7 SP1 didn't have a System file clean up after updates and that they were not creating any more Service Packs which would have done the job after updating, so did a search via Microsoft website and found the fix to the "Disc clean up". Then I conducted the usual fixes from other peoples pain via Google which were, System Restore points size, Hybernate file deletion, Hybernate off, delete old update files via Disc clean up, delete temp files and cookies (do it on a regular basis), moved paging file to G drive. I also installed Easeus and managed to increase the C drive partition very successfully and quickly to 100gb (actually it came out at 83gb and I must add, only after backing everything up), this brought the G drive down to 100gb as everything moved up.
This was great for a while and I seemed to have plenty of C drive space, however it gradually filled, then some days I would switch on and find 20gb free space again. More recently it has filled to 0 free, delete some Temp files and get back 800mb's. It will be like this for a few weeks then switch back on and I get back about 5-8gb's.
These days I cannot seem to get past 1gb no matter what I try. I've checked all my settings to make sure nothing has changed back. The only thing I did was to put back a System Restore Point for C & D Drive, but on deleting them both I only get back about 1gb. I'm sure there is nothing different installed except for my camera software and lightroom which are both on the D drive and then all pictures etc are on the other drives.
I'm sorry if this post is a little protracted but it would be annoying if I only gave one liners.

Does anyone have the latest solution to this annoying issue please, apart from doing a partition move again?

    Thank you.

I find 100 GB a little small for my system drive, especially once you start to install programs on it, but YMMV...

Are you using Acronis imaging software to do your backup? It tends to leave a lot of temp files on your hard disk.

You could try using Treesize Free to look at where your disk space is going.

Please try that and post back the results.

Thanks for your reply Mellon Head. I think I may be changing some partition sizes.

Here is a screen shot of the Treesize outcome....

It's pretty much what I have come up with apart from I got 77.39gb and Treesize has 87.4gb and that 10gb would be useful.
Winnt is 2gb more than I have
Sys Volume information didn't show and there's 4.8gb
The 25.5 in users seems to be mostly in App Data. There are only 2 users, 1 is 18.7 and 2 is 6.8.
No 1 App Data is 11gb, but there is 6.18gb of music, which must be to do with iTunes. Oh by the way, all previous iTunes back ups have been deleted.

    Any idea's?
    Thanks
