Laptop takes extremely long time to boot. Suggestions?

    Hi

I am trying to fix my laptop as its taking a really long time to boot and it keeps freezing, I currently have the use of another laptop so I would see if I can use it to find out a bit more about what might be wrong with it. This is what I have tried to do already:

Checked the start up on msconfig and it looks relatively normal - mostly dell and intel items
run windows defender offline from boot but it doesn't seem to have found anything
I have tried to system restore but its only giving me 1 recent date which is no good.
Nothing seems to be showing up with AVG AV scans
I also tried to run the SFC/scannow function but wasnt really sure what I was looking at so that wasnt too helpful.

Any help or suggestions would be great appreciated.

    Claire

Are you using System Maintenance Utilities in your PC?
They may messup the registry entries.
