Downloads/Uploads speeds - what do they mean please?

I just did a test on Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test

    My results were ....
    Download 14.68Mbps
    and
    Upload 0.95Mbps

Could someone please explain to know-nothimg me if that is good, bad or average please

(my internet provider is Orange/EE, Windows 7 Home Premium .and Firefox)

You need to contact your ISP to find out what Internet bandwidth you are paying for. This varies widely. Without knowing that it is impossible to say if your numbers are good or bad.

Upload speed will typically be much lower than Download so the ratio seems reasonable.
