Win7 long boot time

Hello everyone,

Recently I've been experiencing extremely long boot times on Windows 7.
Now the problem occurs when its already booted up; the moment from pressing the power button untill I see my desktop wallpaper goes fine, however, when I see my desktop it just takes 10-15 minutes before I can actually do something (eg. start a browser window or another program). It's just very unresponsive in these moments and visiting a web page or starting another program takes forever.

Now I know there are a lot of threads out there about long boot times and I've already did some things suggested in them:

- I disabled all the unnecessary startup programs in msconfig (only 4 are still active)
- I scanned for viruses with NOD32
- I scanned for malware with anti-malware bytes
- I did a Windows checkdisk (with no problems)

But, so far, the problem still occurs, what else can I try?

Im gonna see if that helps the problem.

Also, I have 4GB of RAM in my computer at 667Mhz.

Seems that scanning for spyware and fully defragmenting made somewhat better, I'll probably also invest in a SSD drive.

Try running Advance SystemCare 7, you can get it as a freebie. It will clean up lots of stuff and make the system more responsive.

Also try running HitmanPro which comes in 32 or 64bit varities you can get it for 3 with a 30 day trial. It will look for all kinds of nasty viruses etc that you don't know are there and other antivirus programs simply do not find. It's fast and does a great job.

In the registry, if your ok with editing it, look at the WaitToKill time out period that is set. It's probably at 5000 but you can set it at say 2000. This will also speed up the startup and shutdown.

In fact I note that Brink did an article on it some time back

It will be good to follow his advice also.

NO!; do not run any of those types of programs like advanced system care; as most of the experts on these forums will tell you; they often make problems worse than they already are with the exception of certain programs like superantispyware and others that have been reccomended by forum experts.

Sorry but I have to say once again there is nothing wrong with the stuff I mentioned.

As for experts, no harm intended or implied, then I also have to say that I know my 40 years in the Telecoms & IT industry, engineering, to VP level, with some of the worlds leading corporations, is indeed classed as expert experience.

A few other things to consider because it all adds to the boot time.

Have you got the CD/DVD drive as 1st choice boot device in bios? If so set your HDD as 1st choice?

Have you got any wireless devices such as wireless dongles/bluetooth in your system not enabled or with problem drivers. If so W7 looks for these on boot and will spend a while looking for them and delay your system start post boot?

As for potential viruses/malware you might have, I have had many folk say to me that I have checked it with my AV but when you run something like HitmanPro 3 on their system they are amazed at what their so called AV did not detect.
