Several issues needing help with; slow, updates, dvd- on win 7 hp pc

Having several issues. I think main one is a few updates are not installing and therefore hindering the performance of pc. After restoring to an earlier point, I now have a very slow running pc. I have tried some of the advice just short of re-installing win 7 or repairing install. Updates not downloading: KB97632, KB2545698. CD/DVD is not playing anything. Shows up as F: on Computer but says media is not recognized on cd/dvds.

    My computer:
    Hp Pavilion dv4-2140us Entertainment PC
    Win 7 Home Premium (2009)
    64-bit
    AMD Turion II Dual-Core
    Mobile M520 2.30ghz

    Welcome to the Forums sstdiana!

I would highly suggest either a repair install or even a clean fresh install. Have you ran an system file check? Heres a link to how to do that if you haven't before SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker It can find and possibly repair corrupt system files.

A repair install would keep all your settings/programs etc. and is really quite simple : Repair Install

You could try this for the Windows update issues : Windows Update - Reset

Of course you've ran all your malware/anti-virus scans I'm assuming.

Called into work and unable to work on this till now......

I have done all of the fixes from direct installs for updates to early restores. Have yet to install Win SP1. PC just seems worse.

I have finally got the USB to work with Rufus. Not the Win Tool. Would not work with the file downloaded.

I downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium X64 SP1 U (media refresh) from digital river.

Once install started, I made it all the way to checking for updates and a screen stating I needed Win 7 SP1 before it can go any further. Aghhhhhhh! Am I missing something.......
