Startup is very slow than desktop is completely blank.

When I start up my Acer Aspire 5250, I am at the starting windows stage for several minutes than when it loads it enters my profile which has taken up to 7 minutes, but when I enter the desktop is completely blank, except for my cursor. all I can see is my cursor. I can enter the BIOS menu fine so I am stumped. If anyone has this issue or knows how they solved it please let me know.

had this problem too, try again and wait after the blank screen, as long as it takes. Don't get impatient and restart. Once logged in run whatever tests you can. My problem was a hard drive error that needs to be replaced eventually or until it completely stops working. But there could be many other issues.

Easiest things first, have you tried a system restore to a point before all this started? Have you tried a sfc/scannow to check for and possibly repair any corrupt system files? Heres a link to a tutorial on how to do that if you haven't before : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You could also try a repair install : Repair Install

I had this same problem when using a 3rd party Start Button changer, but the sfc/scannow fixed it right up. You will have to boot into safe mode though.
